TSI project to strengthen cancer screening and care

11 October 2025 | Country Update

In September 2025, Luxembourg launches a 24-month EU-funded Technical Support Instrument (TSI) project aimed at strengthening cancer screening and care. The initiative focuses on developing and implementing a new lung cancer screening programme, alongside evaluating and enhancing existing breast and colorectal cancer screening programmes to increase participation. Planned activities include creating an evaluation framework, conducting cost-effectiveness analyses and preparing an implementation plan for the lung cancer screening programme. The €600 000 project aims to build national capacity for screening evaluation and implementation, while also raising awareness among national and international stakeholders. Technical expertise will be provided by the International Agency for Research on Cancer and Erasmus University Medical Center (Rotterdam). The ultimate objective is to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality through earlier detection. The project is implemented jointly with Latvia, which will receive support to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of its cancer care under the same EU initiative.
